Season Hubley on Family (part one)

In early 1976, Season Hubley made the first of four guest appearances on the dramatic television series Family. Her presence on this popular show was great exposure for the actress before she moved on to bigger projects at the end of the decade.

In the Family episode titled "A Special Kind of Loving," Season Hubley plays a (spoiler!) young pregnant woman named Salina Magee. She is a health food store/restaurant employee who is estranged from her own family. Willie Lawrence (played by Gary Frank) begins dating her, not knowing that she is pregnant. Soon after, everyone on the show finds out that she is going to be a single mother and they all begin to freak out.

Season Hubley's first appearance on Family is a fun one, especially to view nearly 40 years after it was first broadcast. The topic of a young person accidentally becoming pregnant is treated very dramatically. Plus, we get all the funky clothing and set designs!

Season Hubley in Loose Change

Though it is not that well-remembered today, one of the highlights of Season Hubley's career was appearing as one of the three lead actresses in a miniseries called Loose Change. Based on a popular book of the same name, this three-part television special was seen by a lot of people at the time and the project also received a fair amount of press attention. Though Loose Change was rerun on TV many times following it's original airing, it never got a home video release and (as of early 2014) has not been released on DVD. Loose Change is one of my all-time favorite miniseries and hopefully one day we will see a remastered version of this fantastic piece of entertainment!

Later on, we'll discuss Season Hubley's character in Loose Change. But, for now, we'll just begin with some images of the beautiful actress from the first segment of the 1978 miniseries:

Maybe you guys already have this one, but I couldn't remember seeing this pic before...so here it is!

Season Hubley in Under the Influence

In 1986, Season Hubley co-starred in a hard-hitting story about alcoholism, pill-popping and family troubles called Under the Influence. Depending on your viewpoint, the TV movie was either a gripping drama that uncovered the dark side of American life or just a heavy-handed portrait of some of the worst people you'd never want to meet. Sadly, many of the attitudes and types of people presented in Under the Influence really do exist...but one can always hope that the numbers are less now than they were when this movie was originally broadcast.

The upside of Under the Influence is the presence of Season Hubley. The actress gets to go over-the-top in her portrayal of the emotionally damaged daughter of horrible parents. During the course of this rather disturbing movie, Season Hubley gets to act utterly shocked a number of times, chain-smoke, slap her husband and attempt suicide. Her expressive face and solid acting skills make for a fun, if depressing, performance.
